BIOGRAPHy
Dominic Bérubé was born in 1983, in Rouyn-Noranda, Qc, Canada. However, he spent his childhood and adolescence in Témiscamingue, a region in the northwest of Quebec, very sparsely populated, over an immense territory. His interest in music was noticed at a young age, and he received his first drum set from his parents at age 11. At 14, he inherited his first classical guitar and composed his first piece that same day. He founded the local groups The Weird Guys Experience and Underground Soldiers, as a drummer, with whom he made his first performances, at private events, during his adolescence.
The nickname and character Marionnette Pointue was born with the new millennium, from the year 2000, forming the experimental duo: Bonhomme Bonheur, Marionnette Pointue and Vice Versa. The duo won a second prize at Cégep en Scène in Rouyn-Noranda in 2001. It was therefore this duo that would become, the same year, the group PLoZ. During the 2001 Lake Témiscamingue Summer Festival, PLoZ won first prize in the musical competition. Marionnette Pointue then began studying Latin percussion at Cégep de St-Laurent and lived in Montreal for 10 years. He then joined the group L.B.V.!, in 2002, as a percussionist, with whom he performed several shows, tours and recordings. They won a second prize during an edition of Cégep Rock around 2004. L.B.V.! released a single: Massacre à l'Ile de Fridge (2003) and an album: Louchement bien vêtus (2004) before disbanding around 2005.
In 2003, PLoZ recruited Louis Lanthier (L.B.V.!, ALIAS) on drums and Olivier Caron (L.B.V.!, Cavalia) on bass and cello. Marionnette Pointue then takes the place of lead guitarist and singer. A performance of this group survives on VHS recorded during a show at La Casa del Popolo in Montreal. In 2005, a complete reshuffle of the group took place with the arrival in Montreal of Samuel Lacasse (aka Bonhomme Bonheur, Le Grosgrangrin), co-founder of PLoZ who took the role of singer, flautist and soprano clarinetist. The group then recruited Audrey Dulong-Bérubé on bass, Nicolas Létourneau on guitar and Alexandra Petit-Robinson on alto clarinet. The group will perform several concerts, tours, a live album in 2006 as well as the album Écorches à Blanc released in 2007. PLoZ also appears on the Festi-Grunge 2007 compilation, following its performance at the festival. In 2012, PLoZ made their last show until today, but the remaining members still cherish the idea of producing a second album, and are currently working on it.
From 2004, Marionnette Pointue undertook a solo career and recorded five albums of experimental music, three of which have still not been released. Nuits Blanches (2004), Le Constat (2006), Les Grands Brûlés (2007), Feutre (2008) and Les Foudroyantes (2009). Only the album Feutre was published in digital version and Le Constat is available to members on Patreon.
In 2011, Marionnette Pointue returned to his native region, raising his first son, taking on a series of jobs and trying to find musicians who would allow him to continue to evolve in his region. Having difficulty finding anything, he then began composing four solo albums: Les Vestiges de l'Homme (2012-13), Urbanophone (2015), La Marée et La Lune (2016) and Pineal Party (2016). He launched the four albums, digital version and on Compact Discs, in May 2017.
In 2013, Marionnette Pointue and Benjamin L.A. founded Mugwomp, an experimental rock group, which is currently back in action. In 2015, he joined the group Mustapio as drummer, with whom he recorded the album Mustapio's Magical Murder Music, released in 2016. Also note collaborations on the album Traverser l'parc by Louis-Philippe Gingras and on the album Heat by Roud Lee.
In 2017, Marionnette Pointue joined Benoît Racine to form the Space Rock group Maître Stator. After a few performances as a duo, they recruited Sylvain Marcotte on bass and Nancy Labelle as backing singer and will do a few local shows and on tour, marking the big return of Marionnette Pointue on voice and guitar. The group will disband in 2019.
From then on, drummer Pascal Bibeau decided to recruit Marionnette Pointue to start a new group. He also recruited Martin Bernard on Bass and the Orchester Pointue was born, becoming the Power Trio with which Marionnette Pointue currently performs. The trio launched their first single Better in 2023.
In 2020, Marionnette Pointue joined the project of his then lover Nadz, the Feminist Anarchist Punk group Chaton Suicide with whom he recorded the album Krampus and the single Rase Moé, both released in 2020.
Marionnette Pointue also accumulates collaborations, sometimes local with Unecorne from Montreal and Monsieur Larose from Lac des Plages, sometimes international with Hilrant from Wales (UK) with whom he is currently composing an album and The Shapes of Sound from Texas (USA) with for whom he has released several singles and for whom he is also a session musician. He continues his work in 2024, producing two ultra rare albums in December, The Merk Conspiracy, an album released in only ONE copy on CD and Drifters, still in December, which was released in 10 CD copies. He is also planning several releases in 2025, including the new single Forever Haunting your Heart, by Marionnette Pointue & Hilrant, launched on January 8, 2025 and Evil as your Master released on March 3rd, 2025, first singles from the 12-track album Forever Haunting you Heart, in collaboration with Hilrant from Wales, due for release in summer 2025.
